Development History

Released in April 2017
  • BUG FIX: Disabled 'For authorisation' radio button when enquiry is 'open for reply authorisation'. This is to prevent a known bug whereby data added by the authorising pharmacist was, sometimes, not saved.
  • MiAdmin: Added facility to disable Keywords
  • MiAdmin: Added facility to show/hide disabled organisations and locations
  • MiAdmin: Added facility to show/hide disabled individuals
  • Disabled keywords can no longer be selected in an enquiry
  • Added code to prevent users adding duplicate enquirers/individuals in MiEnquiryManager and MiAdministrator. Search for duplicates is currently only based on Surname.
  • Added code to prevent users adding duplicate organisations in MiEnquiryManager and MiAdministrator. Search for duplicates is currently only based on Organisation name or postcode.
  • Updated warning text in 'Edit organisation' page, to try to prevent users from (incorrectly) completely changing an organisation to another organisation altogether.  This page should only be used to make MINOR amendments to an existing organisation.
  • AU MiDB: Now shows age qualifier in ADR reports e.g. Years, Months or Days.
  • Added 'next' and 'previous' buttons on Enquirers page in MiEnquiryManager.
  • BUG FIX: Australian ADR reporting bug when a 'prescribed for' reason was added for a suspect medicine, has been fixed.

Released in February 2017
  • Bug Fix: XP users were experiencing an error (which referred to the 'PharmDict.dict' file) on/after adding an attachment. This has now been fixed.
  • MiAdmin: Buttons added to allow you to view all organisations an individual is linked to. Previously you could only see 9 organisations.
  • New filter to report on enquiries where a previous enquiry was used as a source.
  • Categories with an ampersand character (&) in, now display correctly. Previously these characters were replaced with a space.
  • Added facility to set a default centre to be selected in the login screen dropdown list. This is for customers who have multiple centres hosted in one database.

Released in November 2016
  • MiAdmin: Inactive users are now hidden by default, You can show or hide them using a new 'Hide inactive users' checkbox.
  • Previous enquiries shown in the Research tab are now ordered with the most recent enquiry at the top. You can also sort by each field by clicking on the header.

  • Patient age calculation change: Patient age is now calculated in months and days for children under 3 years old
  • Bug fix in MiAdmin: You can now scroll to the bottom of the list of users. You can also sort the list by each field by clicking on the header.

Released in June 2016
  • Changed method for retrieving DMD date in the About page. The new method uses less local memory.

Released in March 2016

  • Date of the DMD file (in the About page) now displays the actual date of the raw DMD files used to create the MI_DMD.xml file. It was previously, incorrectly, showing the date the file was last modified.

Released in October 2015 and includes an important bug fix for UK electronic submission of ADR reports. All users should upgrade to the latest version as soon as possible. See bug details below.

  • ADR BUG: If a telephone or fax number entered in the reporter details (for an ADR) is shorter than 10 characters long it causes an error and the ADR report sent to the MHRA is blank. This bug has been fixed in this version.
  • Minor layout issues fixed.
  • Reports, filtering by origins bug fix.

This version, released in July 2015, is for general use across all markets (subject to configuration).


  • Checkbox ‘Include Invalid FAQ’s’ defaults to OFF on clicking ‘Add Research’ button.
  • Added spell checking to Mi Enquiry Manager
  • When a pre-reg clicks on the ‘Research and Answer Complete’ button, the enquiry goes into Read-Only mode, so that the pre-reg cannot change anything until such time as the enquiry is authorised.
  • Added facility to search organisations by town or postcode


  • Additional fields for patient: patient last period, patient pregnancy due date, patient ethnicity
  • Changes to MHRA webservice to allow new patient fields.
  • Added warning when closing an ADR report to let user know they haven’t electronically submitted the report to the regulatory authority.


  • New checkbox ‘enquiry types’ allows user to choose type of enquiry to generate a report for.
  • New report: top 20 origins and keywords
  • Option to include Quarterly and Monthly period sub-reports to workload report

Version 3.2

MiDatabank Version 3.2 is the latest release and the first specific one for users in Primary Care environments (in particular CCGs and CSUs). 

  • New Primary Care colour interface
  • New reports including keyword trends
  • Creation of new core categories
  • Use of Origins for surgery names in analysis

Version 3.1

 MiDatabank Version 3.1 was released in mid 2011 and provided features to enhance patient safety:

  • Electronic submissions of ADRs (Yellow Forms) direct to the MHRA (for hospitals)
  • Project forms to track key formulary decisions
  • email reply option (with Outlook)

Version 3.0

MiDatabank Version 3 was launched on 1st June 2010. This was a major release for hospitals and also included a configurable and product-centric version - 'MiDatabank i' - for the Pharmaceutical Industry (and outsourcing organisations). 

The many changes included:

  • Medicines Information enquiries (using company products for Industry version)
  • Product Complaint forms (industry only)
  • Editable Core Categories (industry only)
  • ADR forms with MedDRA dictionary terms
  • National Drug Dictionary (DM+D in the UK)
  • FAQ documents
  • Faster data entry / improved interface 
  • Letters with standard paragraphs, text and templates


Version 2.0

A major release at the end of September 2007.

  • Provision of a central web-site that contains a master list of resources (books, web-sites, journals) that is regularly kept up-to-date
  • Synchronisation of MiDatabank desktop software between the above master list and the resources list to allow automatic resource updating when new editions of sources are published, or when URLs change etc.
  • Advanced Search facility includes a wide range of limits/filters including enquirer, completed by, complexity status, specialist referral etc.
  • Advanced Report facility includes fields above plus ability to report at all layers of the Origins node structure. Option to report on enquiries completed or in progress.
  • Searching optimised and is approximately ten times faster than version 1.3

other new features:-

  • Users cannot login to MiDatabank on more than one computer
  • Facility to Enable/Disable Enquirers and Organisations
  • MiDatabank prevents Completion stage if UKMi-agreed compulsory fields have not been filled, and provides an indication of which fields need to be completed.
  • User is prevented from pasting huge images or massive amounts of data into the word-processing fields for the Question, Answer and Research.


Version 1.3

Released at the end of August 2006. This version uses improved word-processing components, and was upgraded to use Microsoft .NET Framework version 2. There are also a number of bug fixes.


Version 1.2

Released at the end of January 2006. This version enabled integration with Hugh Symonds and Datatron for enquiries imported from DiScan. There were also a number of bug fixes.


Version 1.1

MiDatabank Version 1.1 was released on 26th October 2005. This version was developed in order to exploit the new utility programs for exporting enquiries from existing systems. All other functionality was identical to version 1.0.
