How can I add a new information source when I am answering an enquiry?
top

You cannot add a new information source when you are in the Enquiry Manager module. This can only be done by using the Administration Module. However when you are answering an enquiry you can select a generic source name e.g. <other e- source>, <other website>, <other book>, <other paper source>, <other specialist source>.

You can then add details of the source in the source notes box.

How can I add an information source that is not listed?
top

You cannot add a new source to the list whilst you are answering an enquiry, see “How can I add a new information source when I am answering an enquiry?”

Important Note: When a new edition of an existing source is released, this should be treated as a new source. For example, when a new editon of BNF is released, you should not modify your existing BNF, but you should create a new source and then add it to your centre (you might also want to remove the old edition from your centre if this is no longer being used). The only time that you should modify an existing resource is if say a URL changes or if there is a typo that needs fixing.

To add a new source using the Administration Module

1. Add a new source to the Master List
Select Administration>Sources Master List>New Source.
Add in the details of the information source and select Create

2. Add new source to MI Centre list by picking it form the Master List
Select Administration>MI Centres Resources>Resources>Choose Sources from Master List.
Check the box for the new source you have added and click OK

Can I copy and paste tables into the Research section?
top

Yes, however if you have several tables in one document you may need to copy and paste them across one at a time.

Can I use Standard Search Patterns?
top

Yes, although MiDatabank does not currently have Standard Search Patterns built into the system. The best way to use Standard Search Patterns with MiDatabank would be to use them purely as a checklist to help ensure you use all the necessary sources when completing your research.

The list alphabetical list of sources is too long to scroll through. How can I find what I want?
top
Just start typing the first letter of the title of the reference source you want and this will take you to the correct section of the list.

Can I use keyboard shortcuts for commonly used sources?
top
Not currently although this is being looked at for a future version.
