Transferring Existing Enquiries
Transferring enquiries to MiDatabank
is often one of the first tasks that needs to be performed before
MiDatabank is used operationally. Although many centres will
want to import
their existing enquiries,
it should
be noted that this is not essential - some centres opt to leave
their enquiries inside their existing systems, and run this is
conjunction with MiDatabank.
The transfer of enquiries from existing systems to MiDatabank
involves an Access database which is used as an intermediary
device. This Access
database has a standard format which MiDatabank can understand,
and can be thought of as a 'template' to which existing data
is exported. Once
this Access database is populated, the MiDatabank Administrator
application is able to import the database.
The transfer of enquiries from an existing system to MiDatabank
involves two
steps:
Step 1 Export enquiries to the intermediate database using a utility
program
Step 2 Import the intermediate database from the MiDatabank Admin
application
Step 1 - Export enquiries to the intermediate database
Converting your existing enquiries from an existing system
will require a utility program. The end result of this step is
the intermediary database populated with your enquiries.
DiScan Users: A utility program has been developed by Steve May.
Note that MiDatabank v1.1 or above is needed to exploit this utility
Pracsys Users:
A utility program has been developed by CoAcS.
Note that MiDatabank v1.1 or above is needed to exploit this utility Exporting Enquiries
from Pracsys
Strix Users:
A utility program has been developed by CoAcS. Note that MiDatabank v1.1 or above
is needed to exploit this utility Exporting Enquiries from Strix
Users of other systems:
Users of other electronic systems will need to make arrangements
to populate the template database. We are willing
to help with this exercise - please contact Keith.Brown@coacs.com for assistance.
Step 2 - Import the intermediate database to MiDatabank
There is a button labelled 'Import Enquiries from Database' inside
the Configuration tab of MiDatabank Administration application. Clicking
on this button displays the Import dialog box:
Once you have chosen the template database and specified an owner of
imported enquiries, clicking on the OK button starts the importation:-
